About
Our Mission Is To
Believing on Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross of Calvary is the only way of salvation from sin. This is more than just a head-belief but is a heart-belief.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
Baptism does not make someone a Christian. It does not wash away sin. Baptism pictures His death, burial, and resurrection. It also pictures my new life in Jesus Christ. Baptism is one of the first, easiest, and best ways to witness to others of your faith in Jesus Christ, and to publicly declare you are not ashamed of Him.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
It's the Christian's responsibility the get the saving gospel to the lost. The Lord established this local church to reach the people around it. People need the Lord and we must get it to them!
"For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing." 1 Thessalonians 1:8
Our Purpose Is To
Loving God begins in the heart, with a personal relationship with Jesus. This love grows as we gather together in worship and hear the teaching and preaching of the Bible. Our love of God should be the motive behind our service.
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” Mark 12:30
Jesus adds people to His church and enables them to serve by His grace. We desire to help every member of our church family to discover and to use his gifts to serve others through outreach, discipleship, missions, community projects, and ministry.
“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13
We grow together through the Word of God, through The Holy Spirit's work in our daily lives, and through the fellowship we enjoy as Christians. The Word of God is Preached and taught in every service at Lighthouse Baptist Church.
“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18
OUR BELIEFS
“Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ. “We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Ghost to walk in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor and the spread of the gospel through all nations. “We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of, intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the cause of the Saviour. “We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Saviour to secure it without delay. “We moreover engage that when we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with another Bible-believing church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s word.”
We believe that there is one, and only one, true and living God; that He is omnipotent, ominpresent, omniscient, immutable and infinitely holy; that He exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost; and that these three, though one, are yet three distinct persons and are co-equal, co-existent and co-eternal and share every divine perfection. (Deut.4:35; Isa.44:6; Psm.99:9;1John 5:7 [Rom.1:7; John 1:1,14; Acts 5:3-5])
We believe that Jesus Christ is the second (2nd) member of the holy Trinity; that He is the only begotten Son of God who exists eternally as God the Son with God the Father and God the Holy Ghost; that He is the only Saviour of the world, sent by the Father to redeem lost mankind; that He took upon Himself human flesh and dwelt among men here on this earth; that He was at the same time both fully God and fully man; that although He was a man and was tempted like as we are, yet He had no sin and did not possess a sinful, Adamic nature; that He came to this earth in the flesh by way of the virgin birth, born of a woman who had never been sexually intimate with a man; that He had no earthly father, but was conceived of the Holy Ghost in the womb of the virgin Mary; that He died by way crucifixion on the cross at a place called Calvary where He was sinful man’s divine substitute, suffering the full wrath of God and thereby paying in full the penalty for our sins; that His precious blood shed at Calvary is the only atonement for the sins of man, and that it alone is all-sufficient to wash away the sins of every person, and that apart from His shed blood there could be no forgiveness of sins and no redemption from sin; that He was buried, and the third day physically and literally arose from the tomb, and that through His resurrection a sure hope of immortality and everlasting life is given to all who have been saved by faith in Him; that He ascended back into heaven from which He came and is now at the right hand of God the Father carrying on His ministry of intercession for the saints of God as our great high priest; that He will return personally, visibly and literally to this world as He said He would do; that He will come for the church at the rapture and that He will return later with the church at the second advent at the end of the great tribulation; that upon His return He will establish His kingdom upon this earth and rule and reign for one thousand years. (1 John 4:10,14; John 1:14; Phil.2:5-7; 1 Tim. 3:16; Isa.7:14; Mt.1:18-25; Luke 23:33; Rom.5:8; Heb.2:9; Heb.9:12; Heb.10:12; Heb.9:22; Eph.1:7; 1 John 1:7; Luke 24:1-7; 1 Cor.15:1-4; Rom.4:25; Luke 24:50,51; Acts 2:30-33; Heb.7:25; 1John 2:1; Heb.12:22; John 14:3; Acts 1:10,11; 1 Thess.4:13-18; Rev. 19:11-16; Rev.20:4-6)
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third (3rd) person of the holy Trinity, and not an abstract power or influence; that He is sent into the world to convict men of their sin, regenerate the believing sinner through the experience of the new birth, and to seal the believer until the day of redemption when the Lord Jesus Christ comes again to receive His own. (Matt.28:19; John 16:7-14; Eph.1:13; Eph.4:30) Note: We do not subscribe to the heretical and aberrant teachings of the modern-day Charismatic movement concerning the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God, written by holy men of old as they were moved by the Holy Ghost; that it does not merely contain the truth, but that it is the truth, and thereby the standard by which all purported truth must be tested; that God has promised to preserve His word and that the preserved word of God in the English language is the Authorized King James Version of 1611; therefore, no other English translation will be considered to be scripture. (2 Tim.3:15,16; Psm.12:6,7; 2 Peter 1:21; John 17:17)
We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that he fell from his perfect state by voluntary disobedience to the revealed word of God; that since that first transgression all men are born in sin and have a depraved, sinful nature, utterly lacking in the holiness required by the law of God; that man is a sinner by nature, choice and practice, and is therefore under just condemnation, without defense or excuse. (Gen.1:26,27; Gen.2:17; Gen.3:1-6; Rom.5:12; Psm.51:5)
We believe that the only way for man to be saved from eternal ruin is by truly repenting of his sin and trusting Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, as his personal Lord and Saviour; that such an experience consummates the new birth; that he is transformed or regenerated by the Holy Spirit of God as he is born again and becomes a true child of God; that this great salvation is wholly of grace, the free gift of God’s love, and cannot be obtained by any good works or deeds of men; that since salvation is by God’s grace alone, when it comes to the individual heart, it is theirs for time and eternity; that the true child of God is eternally secure in God’s hands; that he is kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation. (Luke 13:3; John 1:12; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Acts 16:30,31; Eph.2:8,9; Titus 3:5; John 5:24; John 10:28-30; 1 Peter 1:3-5)
We believe that the true church is the univeral union of all born again believers, who in their unity compose the body of Christ, with Himself as its Head (1 Cor.12:13; Eph.1:20-22; 3:3-11; 5:23-24,32) We further believe that the local church is an assembly of believers, associated by covenant in faith and fellowship of the gospel of Christ, observing the ordninances given in scripture, being governed by the laws of Christ, and exercising the gifts, rights and priveleges invested in the believer by the word of God. (2 Cor.1:1; Gal.1:2; Acts 5:11)
We believe that the ordinances enjoined by the gospel, given to the church by Christ and to be observed by the church, are baptism and the Lord’s supper; that these ordinances should be honored and observed by the local church. (Matt.28:19,20; Matt.26:26-29; Luke 22:17-20; 1 Cor.11:23-30) A. Baptism: We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion in water of one who has truly been born again into the family of God by having had a personal, soul-saving experience with Christ; that it symbolizes the believer being buried with Christ and raised to walk with Him in newness of life; that this ordinance must be administered in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost; it is for believers only and has no saving merits whatsoever. Note: We reject the heresy of “baptismal regeneration.” B. The Lord’s supper: We believe that the Lord’s supper is to be open and observed by those who have been truly born again by faith in Christ, and is to be observed only after solemn self-examination; that it is a commemoration of the sacrificial death of our loving Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ - the bread symbolizing His broken body and the grape-juice His shed blood. These being taken together memorialize His death until He returns again at His second coming. Note: We reject the heresy of “transubstantiation.”
We believe that the end of this present world will come by fire and the world to come will be eternal; that in the world to come there will be two eternal places - one a place of endless joy for all the people of God, those who have been saved by grace through faith in the Son of God; the other a place of endless punishment for all those who nave never been reconciled to God by the blood of Christ. A. Heaven: A place of beauty and joy, wherein dwelleth righteousness, where the saved will enjoy the presence of God for ever. (2 Cor.12:2-4; 2 Cor.5:1; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Rev.21:22) B. Hell: A place of ceaseless torment, characterized by fire and brimstone, where all who have not received Christ as Saviour will suffer for ever. (Luke 16:19-31; Matt.5:22,29,30; Matt.23:33; Rev.21:8)
We believe in the personality of Satan; that he is not merely an abstract power or influence, but a living, personal being; that he is the god of this world and the prince of the power of the air; that he is constantly seeking to destroy all he can; and that his end will be destruction in the lake of fire. (John 8:44; 2 Cor.4:4; Eph.2:2; 1 Peter 5:8; Rev.20:10)
We believe that a person who has truly accepted Christ as Saviour is a new creature in Christ and that he should live a holy, consecrated life; that he should separate himself from the world in obedience to God’s commands; that he should glorify God who saved him with his life, which is the Christian’s “reasonable service.”(Col.2:6; 1 Peter 2:9; 2 Cor.5:17; 2 Cor.6:14-17; 1 John 2:15; 2 Tim.2:19; 1 Cor.6:19,20; Rom.12:1-2)
We believe that everyone, saved and lost, shall face God in judgment. According to the word of God, the judgment of the saved will be a separate and distinct judgment from that of the unsaved. A. Judgment of the Saved: This judgment is known as the “judgment seat of Christ,” where all the saved will give account of their service to Christ as their Lord and Master from the times of their conversion until their earthly life is over. Christians will be rewarded for faithful service to Christ, but will suffer loss of reward for neglecting their service to Christ. (2 Cor.5:10; 1 Cor.3:11-15) B. Judgment for the Unsaved: This judgment is known as the “great white throne” judgment, where the lost will stand before God and be sentenced to the lake of fire for all eternity because they died lost in their sins, having never received the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Saviour. (Rev.20:11-15)
In view of the US Supreme Court 2015 decision to legalize so-called “same-sex marriage” in all 50 states of the Union, it is incumbent upon us as a Bible-believing local church to state our position on MARRIAGE. We believe that marriage is the first institution ordained by God according to the Scriptures (Genesis 2; Mark 10), and it is a union between a man and woman for the duration of their natural lives (“until death do they part”). We assert that human sexuality is a gift of God that should be engaged in and enjoyed within the context of biblical marriage only (Heb. 13:4) and that sexual activity outside of marriage is sinful, whether if be pre-marital, extra-marital or post-marital. Marriage is for the purpose of companionship, pleasure, and the perpetuation of the race. If the marriage fails, the Bible, although it never condones divorce, does regulate divorce and allows for it in cases of fornication and desertion; and in the case of a scriptural divorce or the death of a spouse, remarriage is permitted (Matthew 19:9; 1 Cor. 7:15) — “only in the Lord” (1 Cor. 7:39). Further, a biblical, Christian marriage is to be between fellow Christian believers who are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 6:14-17); therefore, our church does not marry non-Christians, nor do we perform “mixed” marriages of a Christian and a non-Christian. Being that marriage is more than a ceremony, we do not perform marriages without counseling the couple, determining their commitment to one another, considering their family dynamics, questioning their religious beliefs and salvation experience, etc. It is up to the pastor’s discretion whether to perform a wedding ceremony for an inquiring couple, based upon his personal judgment in the matter. Marriages will be primarily performed for church members “in good standing” only. The church rejects the idea of non-traditional marriage; i.e., we do not condone or endorse or recognize anything other than the union between one biological man and one biological woman as a legitimate marriage. We are opposed to homosexual “marriages,” transgender “marriages,” polygamous “marriages,” polyamorous “marriages,” etc., and as such, it is against our religious convictions to recognize, condone, endorse, or participate in anything other than the traditional, biblical marriage as we understand the Scriptures. It is our conviction that any form of sexual activity other than heterosexual is a perversion of God’s intended design and purpose for human sexuality: this would include homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, pansexuality, incest, bestiality, pedophilia, necrophilia, pornography, adultery, etc.
A good constitution and by-laws along with a well-defined doctrinal statement does two things for a church: A. It strengthens the local church by stating its purposes, beliefs, commitment and operational procedures for all to see, and B. It protects the church legally, procedurally and doctrinally from any individual or group that would attempt to undermine it by questioning and challenging unwritten polices and procedures and beliefs. It will also avert most, if not all, misunderstandings or confusion among the membership. Also, prospective members will know where our church stands and what to expect of our church.
